Research Bursaries

The SSNCI is delighted to announce that from 2023 onwards it will offer a small number of research bursaries to help PhD students/early career researchers/independent scholars undertake research into nineteenth-century Ireland. These are worth up to €350 each and there are no restrictions on the proposed expenditure.

There is no formal application for these bursaries. If you would like to apply, and are a paid-up member of the Society, please send an e-mail to 19ireland@gmail.com setting out (a) your proposed research work, (b) a budget, and (c) any other financial supports you may have available from your University (if any) or other sources to pay for these expenses.

There is no fixed deadline and funds will be made available each year until the pot is empty. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of SSNCI Committee members and you will be informed of the outcome within 3-4 weeks. If there are requests for further information, an SSNCI Committee member will contact you.

For further information please contact Dr. Richard Butler (Mary Immaculate College), President, SSNCI, or Dr. Jay Roszman (UCC), Treasurer, SSNCI.
